Back from the Brink
There are times in life when everything seems to moved passed you and you start to wonder if what you were doing was worth the effort. The past weeks has been such a time so one tried walked away from this and have a second look at it.All things considered I still love doing this but the schedule format doesn't seems to work anymore as it cracked under daily grinding pressure, so from now the comics will adapt on a flexible time format.

Defend from Who? At What Cost?

Just recently our dearest PM declared "We must defend Putrajaya at all cost" as a rallying cry for party members at the 61st Umno general assembly in a speech which hinted general election is around the corner.
Frankly, as a citizen of the nation personally I found his statements quite frankly inappropriate in multiple accounts. First, a defend stance would indicate one is under attack, a general election is hardly an "attack" or "war" to begin with. Second, the saying of "at all cost" would have most wondering how far will the current administration go to ensure a victory. What if the cost involves degradation of moral values or breach of conduct?
There is a general sense from the public point of view the current ruling regime has been in power for far too long and it seems half a century of ruling have since rendered a certain group of people to believe the rights in power to govern this country is a kind of "ownership" instead of "stewardship". That itself in my humble oppinion, is the first step towards down fall.

Madness? No Way!
If you happen to listen to the news of Bolehland lately, the latest biggest fuzz is on the government's announced project of a New mega skyscraper and this is because 'We need it because we can do it' despite Service tax upped to 6pc from next January "to generate additional tax revenue for national development". Let us get this straight, first we need more money because obviously we are running short, then we build another big tower down town because... that will benefit us all? And our dear Prime Minister is confounded by pro-opposition civil servants.
Full steam ahead, dear captain of Titanic.

The Critical Question on Essence of Marriage

This one here is a big question, now that we are pushing for human rights and equality, the very idea and notion of that would inevitably touch issues on religion, race and the big hush hush... homosexuality.
Whatever your stance is on this issue, US State Senator Diane J. Savino made a case for a government that recognizes and administers same-gender marriages that is thought-provoking as this great social experiment on humanity development continues. She recalled an experience that is summarized by the above comic strip.

Rich but unhappy? Either you are not rich enough or you aint doing it right
The age old question which was the sort of last bastion of consolation for poor people... "Can money buy you happiness?" finally fell to some breakthrough in scientific research recently. Watch CNN's Does money equal happiness? for the full details. It would appear the key issue is while money does not bring you happiness itself, it ENABLES one to choose his or her experience freely which is deeply tied to one's happiness. Meaning if you are rich and still not happy you are not spending it right, so there you have it! There goes the last bastion and consolation for being poor.

Something about Life and a box of Chocolate?
Today is no special occasion or anything, but we at Brick Lives would like to show case the accumulated strips about an old plastic man and his friends sitting on a bench talking about the happenings around the world for the past 2 years. The very first strip of Brick Lives series is inspired by a certain very "Gumpy" movie so hence the poster.

That was No Way to call a Lady
From our reader who blog in "A Malaysian Girl's Search for Herself" come another hilarious story where she received a call from a stranger. Her original story can be read in "Hello? Hello?".
We are also announcing the decision to use stories from our readers on random from time to time and making them into comic strips. The condition for this to happen is very simple, it is either you are a registered follower or have contributed linkage to our site and you have a blog of your own with materials which we think is suitable for our content. When a comic is made we will always try to link it back up to your original posting.

The Results Speak for Itself

Following the saga of this and this we couldn't resist to do a bit of street research ourselves so we did the natural thing which any street geek would do: an online poll. Thanks to everyone who participated in the vote! Oddly, the result althought just a tiny sampling in the backwater part of the web, is anything but the officially reported "majority of the public reacted positively to the price hike". The truth is out there some where...

Screw Up Massively and become a Millionaire
Yeah as a layman I will bet you heard of stories of workers getting salary cut, laid off and fired when he or she screws up big time. But as the story goes the top side aint playing fair at all, by real life example if you are on the top side after you screwwd up big and have to resign you still get paid big time -- I mean, why don't you and I have jobs like that? Read more in BP's Hayward to get £10.8m pension if he steps down.Wednesday, July 28, 2010
May be this is how It got so Rich
So we already know the BP oil rig explosion incident which resulted in the most serious oil spill incident ever is a result of their cost cutting measures. Well recently a bunch of sharp eye people pointed out the photos of clean up command center BP released has been altered further fueling the conspiracy theory. You can see all the details here and here.I dunno about you guys... the standard cover up story aside this for some reason also kinda highlight the plight of graphic design industry. Come on, if even BP won't pay up for a cover up op with a proper photoshop job (which is already been overflowing on the market) it shows you how low the standard corp/companies view towards the profession really is.

Rest Well, Buddy
The process of making a com ready to retire is always like a time trip to the past as you browse through all the files and it was like "oh man! These stuff is like from another life time..." when it was actually just 4 years ago. But then year 2006 definitely sounds like another age now.You also get to realise a lot of stuff which you thought were important is actually junk in the long run, but ironically a lot of other stuff which you might have thought to be junk are now cherished memories.

But you didn't said we can't Report your Order
In the recent essential price hikes strangely missing are the word "price hike" on all major news papers titles, and here is the reason why. Kinda think of it, isn't that like the last panel in the comic when a man tells his son to reply on the phone but ended up looking worse?

Past Tense Indeed
Recent survey would tell you as a normal citizen who wish to retire in a city with comfort you would need a huge amount of money. By simple math it will show most people simply cant reach that figure. Read yahoo's latest How to retire with a million dollars. It recommends "By age 55, your retirement portfolio should be at $400,000".Let us assume you have 20 years to get the figure from scratch, $400,000 / (20x12) = $1666.66 pure savings a month, now I won't know if that number is a coincidence, but for a normal joe it is simply a piggy bank too far to reach. At any rate by the time you are really 55 (assuming 20++ years from now) one can really doubt if a million dollars will be enough for you to retire in style.
In short, 95% of the world's population can't really afford to retire.

Italy Stumbles, More than Soccer fans are hurt
Following France's digraceful exit here we have the Defending champion Italy going home early too. On the world front I am sure this cost untold billion dollars worth of damage to soccer gamblers across the globe. There is an old saying stating "the ball is round and roll where it pleases...", better not get entangled in the betting frenzy.

Well we have this (Vision 2020) and we have this (Bankrupt 2020). The best part is apparently we can have both of them.
